Like most self-respecting Turks, I love a good kebab! Although, I am a little fussy but when I come across a really, seriously good Kebab I have to tell everyone about it! Selam Restaurant is just one of those great local small eateries/takeaways that offer a fantastic menu of juicy yaprak doner (roughly translated as leaf doner) which means succulent pieces of meat, layered on one huge skewer and then slow cooked for maximum tongue busting flavours. When sliced, the doner just delicately falls about the Turkish style flat bread (none of that Pitta rubbish) and then rolled into a shwarma style wrap with heaps of salad and love! In fact, all the meats, kebabs, starters, dips and salads are hand made by the owner, Ahmet Ozer, along with traditional homemade dishes, stews and rice, changing daily. The food is well cooked, fresh and there's always something new on the menu. What I like best about Selam is the great hospitality and lots of gorgeous meze to keep you happy whilst you wait for your order. Check it out soon.
