Latest foodie news reports that Heston Blumenthal received a £200,000 compensation payment for last year's two week closure of Fat Duck in Bray following an outbreak of the vomiting bug, norovirus, amongst customers. I'm finding this hard to digest since the Health Protection Agency (HPA) released a report on its investigation into the outbreak earlier this month stating the official cause was contaminated shellfish, as reported on Caterersearch today.
Even worse, customers have yet to receive compensation payments from insurers, Axa, following the incident. As reported on http://www.catersearch.com/ a Fat Duck spokesman said: "Everyone affected was invited back as our guests."
"Those seeking further compensation are dealing with the insurance company AXA direct and we have no involvement in those claims as it is a private matter between AXA and the individual concerned."
Doesn't sound very fair to me. As much as Fat Duck cannot be entirely to blame, maybe they should have used their compensation payout to reimburse their customers.
