I recently had lunch at one of the most talked about, appreciated and widely acclaimed Italian trattoria's to hit our London restaurant scene for a long time. Bocca di Lupo, nestled in Archer Street, W.1 off Great Windmill Street, is good, honest Italian fayre, traditionally prepared and presented with no pomp, whistles and bells. I love it! Chef Jacob Kennedy, has travelled Italy, far and wide to bring you some of the best ingedients and flavours, to give a real taste of Italy. The decor is simple, unassuming and warm. The chefs are all on show, demonstrating their skills and love of the Italian kitchen. On this particular day, they were serving Kid Goat on the specials menu and of course, I had to give it a try! The meat was tender yet flavoursome, packed with herbs and beautifully roasted. Although, not enough meat (or maybe that was me just being greedy) the taste was enough to invoke memories of Nonna cooking in her tiny village kitchen, rolling pasta dough and sieving tomatoes all at the same time. There were classic Italian rice balls for starters which were spot on and a supremely decadent trio of Gelato nestled cosily in a warm brioche, heaven!
Bocca di Lupo is open for lunch, pre-theatre supper and dinner Monday to Saturday and soon to open Sundays for lunch as of 11th April 2010. Price are incredibly reasonable for a London eaterie. Their menu is set out so there is no main course/starter nonsense, just two prices depending on whether you're having a big portion or a small "I'm watching my diet, trying to lose weight, wishing I was having the larger size" kind of portion!
This is a must-visit restaurant, again and again and again……..
