Slow food is a hot topic in foodie news at the moment but some of you may be feeling a little confused as to what it means. Slow Food means food that is produced to be Good, Clean and Fair. http://www.slowfood.org.uk/ founders of the Slow Food movement, says, "Slow Food UK works to ensure good, clean and fair food is a right for everyone. By good, clean and fair we mean that our food should taste good, that it should be produced in a clean way which fully respects the environment, human health and animal welfare, and that food producers are paid a fair wage." I've always argued that we should be aware of the food we eat and where it comes from, particularly where meat is concerned. There is far too much meat eaten in our diet, bought cheaply from the supermarkets without a thought for where or how it's produced or reared. Of course, the flip side is that we can't all afford to eat Organic or Free range. However, if we ate less meat then we might be able to explore this option. I think we should all try to be more adventurous with our cooking too and look to more vegetarian options such as beans and pulses for an alternative source of protein.
