This is a story that's been milling around for a while but unfortunately, your local college will soon see budgets cut and staff redundancies in a massive loss of funding for the next academic year. It's been reported that colleges will see an average of 16% cut from their budgets but many report this to be as much as 25%. Some colleges will see as much as £4m cut. This means Adult learning will be affected and courses cut and my sources tell me, the catering department will suffer considerably.
According to the Association of Colleges, there is a call to the Chancellor to help save these courses and the students they serve.
As someone who works in education, first colleges now secondary schools, I've experienced this first hand, see work dry up at my local college and what looks like more cuts at the school. Whoever said Education was a safe bet, hey!
